The project draws a visual link between the rich biodiversity of the Amazonia and the banks in Canary Wharf, London that continue to fund its destruction. The work combines archival images of wildlife and rainforest scenes—captured during an expedition in the Amazon, Loreto Region, Perú—with recent photographs of bank headquarters in London that promote green branding while financing oil extraction in the region. An investigation by STAND.earth and COICA (Coordinator Of Indigenous Organizations of The Amazon Basin) shows how over the past 20 years, just six banks – Citibank, JPMorgan Chase, Itaú Unibanco, Santander, Bank of America, and HSBC – are responsible for almost half (46%) of all direct financing for oil and gas operations in Amazonia. By placing these two worlds side by side, the project exposes the contradiction between environmental messaging and the financial practices that threaten ecosystems. It asks viewers to question who truly pays the price for greenwashing.
