Guardianas del Lago

San Pedro La Laguna, on the shores of Lake Atitlán, the Indigenous women of Colectivo Tz'ununYa' have been carrying out cleaning days on the lake's beaches since before 2010. Given the lack of presence of the state and municipal management in matters of lake pollution, they have been the ones who have been concerned about the lake in San Pedro la Laguna, along with community support.

Lake Atitlán is one of the most important lakes in Guatemala, in terms of tourism, culture and nature.Sadly, the accumulation of plastic and organic waste in this lake, highlights the impacts of poor waste management and increasing tourism pressures.one of the river channels that provides the entry of waste into the lake in one of the most populated towns of Lake Atitlán
